Hey there my friends!! Hope everyone out there is doing fine! I was on twitter just this morning doing the usual twittering and chatting with some of my friends when and I was asked by a new friend about how to add more twitter followers and whether I know of any twitter tips that would help increase the number of twitter followers in your twitter page. (www.twitter.com/justinyong8)
hmmm… how to add more twitter followers? I felt that many had this question on their minds so I decided that I would do a simple post about what I have learnt on using twitter and how to target where you want your messages to go.
Firstly this post is going to be more for twitter beginners so I’ll try to make it as simple as I can. I’ll talk a little about what I have learnt and how to leverage some systems available to assist in twitter.
Let’s first talk a little about Twitter’s history. Basically twitter was born out of an idea from Jack Dorsey. He really just wanted a program that would allow him to know what his friends were doing at any time of the day. He then brought this concept up to some of his friends and eventually they decided to build a prototype for such a system and Twitter was born.
The concept of twitter is inclined towards a free social networking and micro-blogging service (due to its short messages). It allows users to send and read short messages (also known as tweets) that are no longer then 140 characters long.
Users can choose to ‘Follow’ another user and whenever someone you are following sends out a tweet, you will be able to see it on your twitter page. Due to the nature of its short messages, many individuals also use SMS (short message services) to manage their tweets and twitter accounts.
Twitter is a great tool to use to get your target audience to know who you are, what your business is and where your blog resides. It also serves as a good marketing tool for pushing information to a large amount of people.
Some Tips:
· When adding followers, look for individuals that you are interested in and that have a large amount of followers. (e.g. in Internet Marketing, individuals like Mike Dillard etc) These people usually have like minded individuals following them and you might be able to attract others to follow you.
· After adding these individuals, click on their follower lists and start following other individuals. As a rule of thumb that I learnt from my mentor, I always look for (1) those that have been regularly / recently active and (2) who have a profile picture.
· Depending on your twitter page and the response it gets, a range of about 40% to 70% of the people that you follow will tend to follow you back.
· While following new people daily, remember to keep in mind that twitter has a limit to the number of people that you can follow per day. The ratio is usually 10% of the number you are following against the number following you, or 200 people, (whichever is smaller) – I’ve never really hit this maximum so I cannot confirm these numbers.
· Next, you should use Social Oomph (www.socialoomph.com) to allow you to auto-follow others back. You can set that up at the site and also add auto messages to thank those that follow you.
· Additionally, you can also use a good resource known as Twellow (www.twellow.com) to search for people that you might want to link up with. You can add yourself to 10 categories by creating a free profile on that page and add social media links like your facebook or youtube pages here.
· You can use Twellowhood to follow others in your city too. (Only in U.S. , Canada, Australia)
· Another resource that you can use is Huitter (www.huitter.com). This site allows you to use a function called mutuality. With this, what you want to do is to (1) Unfollow all those who do not follow you back & (2) Follow all that followed you. This will help to balance up your numbers and allow you to add more people.
· Finally I highly recommend this software – TweetDeck. This can be downloaded free at (http://tweetdeck.com/beta/). Tweetdeck is a personal browser that allows you to see everything you want to see all at once in an organized and up to date way. You can even add a link to your Facebook account to see the updates there too!
· Last but not least, remember to add your twitter URL to all your sites, blogs, emails and business cards to allow others to link to you.
I hope that the above tips and information was useful for you! If you still have any questions about twitter or if you have any comments and suggestions please go ahead and comment on this post. You can also contact me at justin.ywf@gmail.com
